Birthdays - Montessori classrooms the world over celebrate each child's special day with a beautiful ceremony. Parents are invited to share their child's life story as they orbit the sun, represented by a candle. The child holds the globe and makes one orbit of the sun for each year of his/her life.
Field Trips - During the year the children take field trips to various places including state park, Zach Scott Theatre, Scottish Rite Theatre, Seguin Nature Centre and State Capital. Each year we have the opportunity to explore different places.
School-Wide Garage Sale - Every year/eighteen months we hold a school wide garage sale at Dr. Zea's Chiropractic office in Lockhart. Families donate their items, man the booths and we use the money towards new equipment in our ever expanding school.
Chinese New Year - We usually celebrate this special New Year with sparkles to chase away the bad luck.
Cowboy Day - A TEXAS size celebration of all things cowboy. March 2nd is Texas Independence day and at LMS we celebrate this special day by playing games, wearing cowboy attire and having a fun time all around.
St. Patrick's Day - Another special celebration at LMS. Mrs. Zea hails from the Emerald Isle so this is a very special holiday. Parents come to watch their children parade down the driveway. St. Patrick chases the big snake out of this little piece of Ireland. Everyone enjoys a family style picnic lunch, either inside or outside.
Easter - We talk about the meaning of Easter and how each family celebrates this holiday at home.
School Photo Day - Big smiles required on this day.
Cinco de Mayo - We talk about Mexico gaining independence from French forces.
Open House - During Open House each child has time to share his/her favourite lessons he/she has worked on over the school year. The children are always so proud to share their lessons and their growing skills. Chisholm Trail Parade - held on the second Saturday in June, the parade is a great way to bring our school into the community. We have two floats, decorated by parents and all the children love to ride on their float and wave. A welcome cold ice cream awaits at the end. A big thanks to all the parents who help decorate and chaperon the children during the morning.
Parents Education Nights - held monthly the first four months of school these nights are a wonderful, informative way to experience all the lessons/activities your child will be working on in the coming months. All levels focus on the main curriculum areas of practical life, sensorial, math, language and culture. It is also a terrific way to meet other parents and get to know our LMS community.
Volunteer Opportunities - our school community couldn't do what we do without the wonderful help of our children's parents, grandparents and family friends. During the year we have a large family work day on a weekend day, smaller garden days with children during school hours and ample opportunities for families to come help at school by sharing there skills and talents. Our volunteer opportunities help LMS to keep our tuition at an easily affordable cost to families in our area.
Deiz y Seiz de Septiembre (16 de Septiembre) - We talk about Mexico gaining independence from Spanish forces.
Hallowe'en Food Drive/Valentine Food Drive - for these special days children do not wear their uniforms, instead they wear street clothing and bring a donation to the Caldwell Co. food bank. Helping other children not as fortunate as they are is a wonderful lesson in gratitude. We are indeed lucky to have such wonderful families to take care of us. We use this opportunity, especially for Valentine's Day, to focus on doing small, nice deeds for someone rather than purchasing material gifts.
Brown Santa Toy Drive - LMS has supported Brown Santa since 2005 and we are grateful to the Sheriff's office for always sending a sheriff complete with car to our school. The children love to load up the toys, although sometimes is can be hard to say goodbye to that lovely gift. The sheriff always make a grand exit, flashing lights and sirens.
Thanksgiving - During the lead up to Thanksgiving we talk about all the wonderful things we are thankful for. The children usually share a family style lunch they help prepare on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
St. Nicholas Night - In Europe St. Nicholas visits the children and leaves candy, potatoes and dolls in their shoes or boots. St. Nicholas always make a quick stop at LMS to visit the descendants of the European immigrants. We are lucky our children are so well behaved as he only rarely leaves potatoes for us.
Breakfast with Santa - Breakfast with Santa takes place the first Saturday of every December. The school provides a hot breakfast and professional photos with Santa for the community as well as for interested families at LMS. This is a popular event for the community and one that we look forward to every year.
Winter Pot Luck - before we break for Christmas holidays we have a wonderful night of music and food. Children do a small performance and then we enjoy the pot luck supper provided by parents.
